Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant 4 commenced on March 9, 2014. The plant includes 2 thermal power generating units with the total capacity of 1,200 MW. The annual electricity output of the plant is about 7,2 billion kWh. The first unit is expected to start commercial operation after 46 months of construction and installation (in December 2017) followed by the second one in June 2018.

It is expected that the thermal power plant will supply electricity to facilitate the socio-economic development in South Central region. Therefore, the dependence upon hydroelectric plant for electricity will reduce, especially in dry season and drought; the electricity transmitted from the North to the South will decrease and security as well as sustainability will increase.
